This table includes selected intein characteristics. A more complete set of intein properties can be found by clicking on the intein name.
A table of experimental and theoretical inteins can be found in the Intein Registry.
For a complete description of each column, see the On-line Submission of Intein Data Section.
Intein size does not include the conserved Ser/Cys/Thr at the beginning of the downstream extein.
Flanking extein residues are separated from intein residues by a slash (/).
The Endo Activity column lists names of experimentally demonstrated homing endonucleases.
The Endo Motif column indicates the presence of signature motifs from DOD (LAGLIDADG) and HNH families of homing endonucleases, but does not indicate endonuclease activity. The absence of a large endonuclease domain between intein Blocks B and F is indicated as 'none' and the presence of a large sequence that does not have homing endonuclease signature motifs is indicated as 'unknown'.
The extein residue preceding the intein is indicated in the Location in the Extein column.
The Insert Site column lists conserved extein motifs interrupted by or adjacent to the intein, as well as extein insertion site names using the consensus found in http://blocks.fhcrc.org/~pietro/inteins.
